RESUMO

Pomelo sponge layer (PSL) had been considered as a potential source of soluble dietary fiber (SDF), while they were mostly disposed of as waste. To promote high-value utilization of pomelo wastes, this study extracted SDF from PSL of six varieties of pomelo, and their physicochemical, structural and functional properties were investigated. Results indicated that all PSL-SDFs showed good physicochemical and functional properties. Among them, PSL-SDF from grapefruit (GRSDF) showed better water holding capacity and swelling capacity, whereas Shatian pomelo PSL-SDF and Guanxi pomelo PSL-SDF had the highest thermal stability and oil holding capacity, respectively. Furthermore, compared with other PSL-SDFs, GRSDF displayed the lowest hydrolysis degree coupled with the best antioxidant and probiotic growth-promoting abilities. Finally, the correlation analysis showed that multiple beneficial effects of PSL-SDFs were markedly associated with their molecular weight and the concentrations of total phenolic, total flavonoids, rhamnose, galacturonic acid, glucose and arabinose. Collectively, these findings contributed to a better understanding of the physicochemical and functional properties of SDFs extracted from different PSLs, which provided a scientific basis for the development of PSL-SDFs into functional foods.

RESUMO

Background: Nurses are the largest occupational group in the health field, with inestimable value in realizing universal health coverage, and nurses' physical and mental health has become an ordinary global reality. Compared with explicit absence, nurses' presenteeism has a more lasting impact and significant harm and loss. It has become an essential factor affecting nurses' physical and mental health, declining quality of healthcare services, and elevated healthcare-related risks. There is a lack of research exploring whether occupational coping self-efficacy influences nurses' presenteeism behavior, especially in less-developed regions of China. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the current status of ICU nurses' occupational coping self-efficacy and presenteeism in public hospitals in western China and to explore the impact of ICU nurses' occupational coping self-efficacy on presenteeism. Methods: A cross-sectional research design selected 722 ICU nurses in western China from January to February 2023 as survey respondents. A general information questionnaire, Occupational Coping Self-Efficacy Scale (OCSE-N), and Stanford Presenteeism Scale (SPS-6) were used. SPSS 21.0 software was used for statistical analysis. Pearson correlation analysis and multivariate hierarchical regression were used to explore the influence of ICU nurses' occupational coping self-efficacy on presenteeism. Results: A total of 722 ICU nurses completed the questionnaire. The OCSE-N score of ICU nurses was (22.24 ± 6.15), and the SPS-6 score was (16.83 ± 4.24). The high presenteeism was 67.23%. Correlation analysis showed that in ICU nurses, OCSE-N total score was negatively correlated with SPS-6 total score (r = -0.421, p < 0.05), indicating that the higher the level of occupational coping self-efficacy, the lower the presenteeism. Multiple hierarchical regression analysis showed that occupational coping self-efficacy strongly predicted presenteeism, accounting for approximately 18.35% of the total variance. Conclusion: There is a correlation between ICU nurses' occupational coping self-efficacy and presenteeism, and nurses' occupational coping self-efficacy affects presenteeism differently. Managers should pay attention to nurses' occupational coping self-efficacy to promote nurses' presenteeism reduction.

RESUMO

Objective: To explore the chain-mediated role of sense of career benefit and sense of career mission in the mechanism of psychological flexibility's effect on nurses' work engagement. Methods: Adopting the convenience sampling method, 1032 nurses in 10 general hospitals in Sichuan Province were surveyed by questionnaires using the General Information Questionnaire, Sense of Occupational Benefit Scale, Sense of Occupational Mission Scale, Psychological Flexibility Scale, and work engagement Scale in August-October 2022, and the model of the chained-mediated effect was constructed and validated. Results: The total psychological resilience score of nurses in 10 general hospitals in Sichuan Province was (91.29 ± 17.38), the total score of sense of occupational benefit was (137.85 ± 21.02), the total score of sense of occupational mission was (40.27 ± 7.37), and the total score of work engagement was (34.99 ± 9.80). The total score of nurses' work engagement was positively correlated with the total scores of psychological elasticity, sense of professional benefit, and sense of professional mission (all P < 0.05). The direct effect of psychological elasticity on nurses' work engagement was significant, with an effect value of 0.321; the chain mediation effects of occupational benefit and occupational mission as separate mediators and the chain mediation effects of the two were 0.039, 0.032, and 0.062, respectively. Conclusion: Nurses' work engagement in 10 general hospitals in Sichuan province is at a medium level, and occupational benefit and occupational mission play a significant role in the mechanism of the psychological elasticity's effects on nurses' work commitment, and the chain mediation effect of occupational mission in the mechanism of psychological elasticity is established. The chain mediation effect in the mechanism was established. Managers should pay attention to nurses with low psychological elasticity, improve their sense of occupational benefit, and enhance their sense of occupational mission in order to further promote the enhancement of work engagement.

RESUMO

In this study, the key prebiotic fraction of grapefruit peel sponge layer soluble dietary fiber (GSLSDF) was identified, and its structure characteristics and modulatory effect on intestinal microorganisms were investigated. Firstly, two fractions (GSLSDF-1 and GSLSDF-2) were isolated from GSLSDF, and the GSLSDF-1 showed a better prebiotic activity. Subsequently, GSLSDF-1 was found to have a low molecular weight and crystallinity, a loose and porous microstructure, and a high glucose content. Meanwhile, GSLSDF-1 was a dextran with a main chain linked by ß-1, 4 glycosidic bonds and branched by a ß-1, 6 glycosidic bonds. These structural characteristics were responsible for the favorable prebiotic activity of GSLSDF-1. Finally, the regulation effect of GSLSDF-1 on gut microbiota was analyzed in vitro fecal fermentation. Compared with the blank and GSLSDF groups, GSLSDF-1 could increase the relative abundances of Lactobacillus, Bacteroides, Bifidobacterium and Faecalibacterium coupled with decrease the relative abundances of Clostridium and Clostridioides. Furthermore, GSLSDF-1 promoted the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) by modulating the SCFAs synthesis pathway of intestinal microorganisms, while the NH3-N synthesis of intestinal microorganisms was inhibited by GSLSDF-1. Above results indicated that GSLSDF-1 was the key prebiotic fraction of GSLSDF, which could effectively optimize the intestinal microorganism composition.

RESUMO

Fermentation is a novel technology for modifying polysaccharides in fruits and improving their bioactivities. In this work, we introduced Lactobacillus plantarum FM 17 to ferment jackfruit pulp and subsequently purified polysaccharides from unfermented (JP) and fermented jackfruit pulp (JP-F). Furthermore, the physicochemical, structural, and bioactive properties of JP and JP-F were investigated. Results showed fermentation dropped the glucuronic acid, molecular weight, and particle size of JP-F by 15.62 %, 23.92 %, and 39.43 %, respectively, compared with those of JP. JP-F showed higher solubility than JP but lower apparent viscosity and thermal stability. Additionally, FT-IR spectra and X-ray diffraction analysis showed that fermentation did not alter the different types of glycosidic bonds and the fundamental polysaccharide structure. Moreover, JP-F exhibited stronger DPPH and ABTS free radical scavenging properties than JP and stronger stimulation on macrophage secretion of NO and IL-6 in RAW 264.7 cells. Therefore, using L. plantarum FM 17 for fermentation can alter physical and chemical properties of jackfruit pulp polysaccharides, enhancing their bioactivities.

RESUMO

Flavonoids are essential substances with antioxidant properties and high medicinal value. Citrus reticulata 'Chachi' peel (CRCP) is rich in flavonoids and has numerous health benefits. The different maturity periods of CRCP can affect the flavonoid contents and pharmacological effects. In this study, we successfully performed UPLC-ESI-MS/MS-based metabolic analysis to compare the metabolites of CRCP at different harvesting periods (Jul, Aug, Sep, Oct, Nov, and Dec) using a systematic approach. The results revealed the identification of a total of 168 flavonoid metabolites, including 61 flavones, 54 flavonols, 14 flavone C-glycosides, 14 dihydroflavones, 9 flavanones, 8 isoflavones, 3 flavanols, 3 dihydroflavonols, and 2 chalcones. Clustering analysis and PCA were used to separate the CRCP samples collected at different stages. Furthermore, from July to December, the relative contents of isoflavones, dihydroflavones, and dihydroflavonols gradually increased and flavanols gradually decreased over time. The relative content of flavonoid C-glycosides showed an increasing and then decreasing trend, reaching the highest value in August. This study contributes to a better understanding of flavonoid metabolites in CRCP at different harvesting stages and informs their potential future utilization.

RESUMO

Background: Presenteeism is a significant global public health problem, and nurses are a high-prevalence group of presenteeism, affecting not only nurses' physical and mental health, work efficiency, and quality of work but even poses a serious threat to patient safety. Objective: The categorization of presenteeism among ICU nurses is unclear. Our research aims to explore the subtypes of presenteeism among ICU nurses based on latent profile analysis, analyze the influencing factors of different subtypes, and provide a reference basis for developing targeted interventions to reduce the presenteeism rate. Methods: From January to February 2023, 509 ICU nurses in Sichuan Province, China, were selected as respondents and surveyed using the general information questionnaire, the presenteeism scale, and the perceived social support scale. Potential categories of presenteeism among ICU nurses were explored using potential profile analysis, and factors influencing the potential types of presenteeism among ICU nurses were investigated using the chi-square test and multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results: The best model was suggested to consist of three profiles: low presenteeism-normal coping group (18.3%), moderate presenteeism group (47.9%), and high presenteeism-work limitation group (33.8%). Multiple logistic regression results showed that secondary hospitals (OR = 0.116, p = 0.015), good physical health (OR = 0.084, p = 0.023), general physical health (OR = 0.016, p = 0.037), ICU human resource allocation = 1:2.5 to 3 (OR = 0.315, p = 0.007), and higher social support scores (OR = 0.975, p = 0.047) were more likely to be grouped into low presenteeism-normal coping group; married with no children (OR = 24.554, p = 0.005) were more likely to be grouped into moderate presenteeism group; and having experienced workplace violence in the past year (OR = 1.182, p = 0.049) were more likely to be grouped into high presenteeism-work limitation group. Conclusion: There is group heterogeneity in the presenteeism of ICU nurses, and nursing managers should develop targeted interventions to reduce the presenteeism rate of ICU nurses according to the characteristics and influencing factors of each type of presenteeism of ICU nurses.

RESUMO

In this study, carotenoids and polyphenols were demonstrated to be the major active substances in the crude pigment extracts (CPE) of mango peels, accounting for 0.26 mg/g and 0.15 mg/g, respectively. The interactions between carotenoids and polyphenols in CPE was observed, as evidenced by that polyphenols significantly improved the antioxidant activity and storage stability of carotenoids in the CPE. Meanwhile, scanning electron microscopy showed that polyphenols are tightly bound to carotenoids. To further elucidate the interaction mechanism, the monomers of carotenoids and polyphenols were identified by HPLC and LC-MS analysis. Lutein (203.85 µg/g), ß-carotene (41.40 µg/g), zeaxanthin (4.20 µg/g) and α-carotene (1.50 µg/g) were authenticated as the primary monomers of carotenoids. Polyphenols were mainly consisted of gallic acid (95.10 µg/g), quercetin-3-ß-glucoside (29.10 µg/g), catechin (11.85 µg/g) and quercetin (11.55 µg/g). The interaction indexes between carotenoid and polyphenol monomer of CPE were calculated. The result indicated that lutein and gallic acid showed the greatest synergistic effect on the scavenging of DPPH and ABTS radical, suggesting the interaction between carotenoids and polyphenols in CPE was mainly caused by lutein and gallic acid. Molecular dynamics simulations and thermodynamic parameters analysis demonstrated that hydrogen bonding, electrostatic interactions, and van der Waals forces played dominant roles in the interaction between lutein and gallic acid, which was confirmed by Raman and X-ray diffraction. These results provided a new perspective on the interaction mechanism between carotenoids and polyphenols, which offered a novel strategy for the enhancement of the activities and stability of bioactive substances.

RESUMO

Exopolysaccharide (EPS), as a secondary metabolite of microorganisms, has been commonly used in the dairy industry to replace the traditional stabilizers. However, the EPS production by microorganism is generally low, which limits its application. A litchi polysaccharide (Lzp2-2) with the promoting effect on EPS production by Weissella confusa was purified. The SEM and FT-IR analysis indicated that Lzp2-2 displayed a compact netlike structure and typical bands of carbohydrates. The structure of Lzp2-2 was further elucidated, which was comprised of a major backbone structure [→3)-ß-D-Galp-(1→6)-ß-D-Galp-(1 â†’ 6)-ß-D-Galp-(1 â†’ 3)-ß-D-Glcp-(1 â†’ 6)-α-D-Glcp-(1 â†’ 3)-α-D-Glcp-(1→] linked with two side chains [α-L-Araf-(1 â†’ 5)-α-L-Araf-(1→, and ß-D-Glcp-(1 â†’ or α-L-Araf-(1→] at the O-3 and O-6) of ß-D-Galp-(1→, respectively. Finally, Lzp2-2 was applied as an additive to the medium of yoghurt fermented by W. confusa. The results indicated Lzp2-2 not only promoted the EPS production to improve the viscosity, texture and mouthfeel of yoghurt, but also facilitated the generation of other secondary metabolites (volatile organic compounds), thus elevating the flavor of yoghurt.

RESUMO

In this study, the influences of pomelo cultivars on physicochemical properties, functional characteristics, and volatile compounds of juices were investigated. Among these six varieties, the highest juice yield (73.22%) was obtained in grapefruit. Sucrose and citric acid were the main sugar component and organic acid of pomelo juices, respectively. The results showed that the cv. Pingshanyu pomelo juice and grapefruit juice had the highest sucrose (87.14 g L-1, 97.69 g L-1) and citric acid content (14.49 g L-1, 13.7 g L-1), respectively. Moreover, the naringenin was the main flavonoid of pomelo juice. Additionally, the total phenolics, total flavonoids, and ascorbic acid concentrations of grapefruit and cv. Wendanyu pomelo juice were higher than those of other varieties of pomelo juices. Furthermore, 79 volatile substances were identified from the juices of six pomelo cultivars. Hydrocarbons were the predominant volatile substances, and the limonene was the characteristic hydrocarbon substance of pomelo juice. In addition, the pulp content of pomelo juice also presented great effects on its quality and volatile compounds composition. Compared to low pulp juice, the corresponding high pulp juice had higher sucrose, pH, total soluble solid, acetic acid, viscosity, bioactive substances and volatile substances. The effects of cultivars and variation in turbidity on juice are highlighted. It is useful for pomelo breeders, packers and processors to understand the quality of the pomelo they are working with. This work could provide valuable information on selecting suitable pomelo cultivars for juice processing.

RESUMO

In this study, the physicochemical properties, antioxidant capacity, and volatile compounds of the juices of different guava cultivars before and after pectinase treatment were evaluated. The results showed that the guava juice of the small fragrant (SF) cultivar exhibited the highest ascorbic acid concentration (1761.09 mg/L), and the highest contents of total phenolics (329.52 mg GAE/L) and total flavonoids (411.13 mg RE/L) were both found in the juice of the watermelon red (WR) cultivar. After pectinase treatment, the juice yield and the titratable acid, sugar components, total phenolics and total flavonoids, and antioxidant capacity levels of the guava juices were all higher than those of the non-pectinase group. However, lower sensory evaluation scores were obtained in the pectinase-treated guava juices. Aldehydes and terpenoids were the main flavor components in the guava juices, which were responsible for the aroma of the juice, while their relative contents were different in the four cultivar guava juices. Furthermore, pectinase treatment could change the amounts and relative contents of volatile compounds in the guava juice. During the pectinase treatment process, the relative contents of the main aroma constituents in the guava juices were significantly decreased. The findings of this research provide valuable information for the processing of guava juice.

RESUMO

The control of biogenic amines (BAs) is crucial to guarantee the safety of fermented soybean products. In this study, the BAs composition of eleven shuidouchi samples was analyzed, and the BAs degradation strains were selected from shuidouchi samples with a low BAs content. Then the influences of screened BAs degradation strains on BAs, total phenolics (TP), total flavonoids (TF), isoflavones and the antioxidant ability of fermented shuidouchi were evaluated. Results showed that the total BAs content of all shuidouchi samples was within the safe range, while the GZXQ, GZQY and GZMX samples had higher levels of tyramine. Meanwhile, 109 strains were isolated from the YNLJ, GZLG, GZMZ, GZDY, and YNHY sample. Bacillus tropicus A11, Bacillus siamensis D11, Bacillus subtilis T2, and B. subtilis U2 with higher BAs degradation capacity and lower BAs production ability were selected to ferment shuidouchi. These four Bacillus strains could effectively control the BAs concentration of fermented shuidouchi, especially B. tropicus A11 and B. siamensis D11. Furthermore, compared to naturally fermented shuidouchi, higher levels of antioxidant ability, TP, TF, daidzein, glyciein, and genistein were found in the shuidouchi fermented with selected strains. These findings demonstrated that these screened strains could be applied as potential candidates for the production of high quality shuidouchi.

RESUMO

In the current study, the effects of fermentation manners on the structure and immunomodulatory activity of polysaccharide in longan wine or vinegar were investigated. Compared to longan polysaccharide (CP1), polysaccharide in longan wine (CP2) or vinegar (CP3 and CP4) had smaller molecular weights, and was consisted of more mannose, arabinose, rhamnose, galactose and less glucose. After purification, the major fraction (P1-P4) was obtained from CP1-CP4, respectively. The structures and immunoregulatory activities of P1-P4 were characterized. Fermentation and purification were favorable to increase the immunoregulatory activities of P2-P4, which were contributed to their different structural features. The structure-activity relationship analysis indicated that molecular weight, mannose, rhamnose, glucuronic acid, glucose and arabinose were significantly associated with the cytokines secretion. Compared with other polysaccharides, P3 displayed better immunomodulatory activity due to its lower molecular weight, lower contents of rhamnose and glucose, and higher levels of mannose and arabinose by activating MAPK and PI3K/Akt signaling pathways.

RESUMO

The preparation process of yellow pigment (YP) from gardenia (Gardenia jasminoides) fruit was investigated, and the main components of YP were characterized by liquid chromatography-time of flight-mass spectrometer/mass spectrometer (LC-TOF-MS/MS). Furthermore, cytotoxic activity in HepG2 cells by induction of apoptosis was also evaluated. The preparation results indicated that the color value of YP was 498.34, which was 8.6 times higher than crude YP. Fifteen compounds in YP were identified, and crocins were the predominant compounds. The cell experiment results showed that YP inhibited the proliferation of HepG2 cells in a time- and dose-dependent manner. Moreover, YP also inhibited HepG2 cells in G2/M stage, increased the level of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS), and enhanced cell apoptosis. Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) analysis revealed the up-regulation of caspase-3, 8, 9, and bax and down-regulation of bcl-2 in HepG2 cells. Overall, these findings suggested that YP had potential cytotoxic activity in HepG2 cells by induction of apoptosis, which might be beneficial to human health. RESUMO

Durian fruit puree (DFP) is a nutrient-dense food, but it has a short shelf life. Presently, little research has been undertaken on extending the shelf life of DFP. Hence, it is necessary to develop treatment methods that can prolong the shelf life of DFP. In the present study, thermal processing (TP), high-pressure processing (HPP), and CO2-assisted HPP (CO2 + HPP) treatments are used for DFP, and their influences on quality properties of DFP during storage (35 days, 4 °C) are investigated. Compared to other treatments, the CO2 + HPP treatment had a lower pressure and a shorter time to achieve the same effect of inactivating the microorganisms of DFP. During storage, CO2 + HPP treated DFP showed higher retention rates of sugars, total soluble solids, color, bioactive components, and antioxidant capacity in comparison with other treated DFPs. Moreover, after 35 days of storage, the microbial count of (CO2 + HPP)-treated DFP (3.80 × 103 CFU/g) was much lower than those of TP (4.77 × 105 CFU/g) and HPP (8.53 × 103 CFU/g)-treated DFPs. The results of this study reveal that CO2 + HPP treatment could not only better preserve the quality of DFP, but also effectively extend the shelf life of DFP, providing an effective method for the processing of DFP.

RESUMO

Nine-processed tangerine peel (Jiuzhi Chenpi in Chinese) is a famous Chinese traditional snack. The composition and contents of volatile substances during its processing is unclear. Gas chromatography combined with ion mobility spectrometry (GC-IMS) was applied to determine the characteristic changes of volatile components throughout the production process. Four stages such as untreated dry tangerine peel (raw material), debittered tangerine peel, pickled tangerine peel, and final product were examined. A total of 110 flavor compounds including terpenes, alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, esters, acids, and two others were successfully detected in tangerine peel samples across the various production stages. There were abundant amounts of terpenes contributing to the flavor, including limonene, gamma-terpinene, alpha-pinene, myrcene, beta-pinene, and alpha-thujene which were reduced at the later stage of production. Large amounts of esters and alcohols such as methyl acetate, furfuryl acetate, ethyl acetate, benzyl propionate, 2-hexanol, linalool, and isopulegol, were diminished at the early stage of processing, i.e., soaking for debittering. One the other hand, the final product contained increased amount of aldehydes and ketones including pentanal, hexanal, 2-hexenal, 2-heptenal (E), 2-pentenal (E), 1-penten-3-one, 6-methyl-5-hepten-2-one, 2-methyl-2-propenal, and 2-cyclohexen-1-one, and very high level of acetic acid. Present findings help to understand the formation of the unique flavor of nine-processed tangerine peel and provide a scientific basis for the optimization of processing methods and quality control.

RESUMO

Suitable drying method is critical for the preservation of physicochemical and pharmacological quality of lychee pulp polysaccharides (LPPs). In current work, the effects of five drying methods, i.e. air drying (A), infrared drying (I), heat pump drying (H), vacuum freeze drying (F) and freeze vacuum drying combined with heat pump drying (FH) on the physicochemical characterizations, antioxidant activities and hypoglycemic activities of LPPs were explored. Results showed all five drying methods led to thermal aggregation of LPPs and the stronger the thermal effect induced by drying, the more serious the aggregations were. Additionally, the thermal aggregation significantly affected the composition, structure and biological activity of LPPs. Less thermal aggregation was observed in LPPF and LPPFH, which exhibited stronger oxygen, DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activities, higher ferric-reducing power and better α-glycosidase and α-amylase inhibition activities, resulting from their higher contents of neutral sugar, protein and uronic acid and lower molecular weight than LPPA and LPPI. Besides, FH consumed about half drying time and one fifth energy of F. Therefore, from industrial perspective, FH is a promising alternative to F for producing LPPs by comprehensively considering physicochemical characterizations, bioactivity as well as energy consumption.

RESUMO

Effects of different extraction acids on physicochemical, structural, and functional properties of wampee fruit peel pectin (WFPP) were comparatively investigated. The hydrochloric acid extracted WFPP (HEP) exhibited the highest degrees of methylation (67.79%) and acetylation (86.29%) coupling with abundant monosaccharides and rhamnogalacturonan branches, but lowest molecular weight (5.58 × 105 Da). The results of SEM, X-ray diffraction, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analyses showed that acid types had little effect on the surface morphology of WFPP. However, compared to commercial citrus pectin (CCP), several specific absorbance peaks (1539, 1019, 920 cm-1) were found in WFPPs, which corresponds to aromatic skeletal stretching, pyranose, and d-glucopyranosyl, respectively. Moreover, the rheological behavior revealed that WFPP solution was pseudoplastic fluid and affected by acid types. And the WFPPs exhibited higher emulsifying activity and emulsion stability than CCP. All these WFPPs presented well antioxidant activity and promoting probiotics ability, especially for HEP.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To analyze the relationship between monocyte count and preoperative deep venous thrombosis (DVT) in older patients with hip fracture. METHODS: Consecutive older patients with hip fracture undergoing surgery were included from January 2014 to December 2021. Monocyte count was measured on admission, and Doppler ultrasonography was performed for DVT screening prior to surgery. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to assess the association between monocyte count and DVT. RESULTS: A total of 674 patients were finally included, and 128 patients (19.0%) were diagnosed with preoperative DVT. Patients with DVT exhibited a higher monocyte count than patients without DVT [0.55 (0.43-0.72) × 109/L versus 0.49 (0.38-0.63) × 109/L, P = 0.007]. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that a high monocyte count (> 0.6 × 109/L) was independently associated with a higher risk of DVT (OR = 1.705, 95% CI: 1.121-2.593, P = 0.013), and for every 0.1 × 109/L increase in monocyte count, the risk of DVT increased by 8.5% (OR = 1.085, 95% CI: 1.003-1.174, P = 0.041). Other risk factors associated with DVT included intertrochanteric fracture (OR = 1.596, 95% CI: 1.022-2.492, P = 0.040), and elevated fibrinogen level (OR = 1.236, 95% CI: 1.029-1.484, P = 0.023). CONCLUSION: A high monocyte count is associated with an increased risk of DVT in older patients with hip fracture. Future studies should evaluate the potential role of monocyte in the prevention and treatment of thrombosis.
